About

My name is Joe Cho 曹念祖.

An Asian-Canadian ink and water-colour artist whose work bridges traditional Chinese literati aesthetics with contemporary live performance. Rooted in classical brush philosophy and calligraphic expression, his art transforms ink into a dynamic, audience-engaging experience through large-scale live painting.

Born in Asia and based in Canada, his practice draws on poetic symbolism and cultural memory, often expressed through motifs that embody vitality and renewal. His work has been featured in cultural events, exhibitions, and charity initiatives, reflecting a strong commitment to community engagement.

After a full-time career in interior design in Ontario, from which he retired in 2024, Joe now focuses on ink and water-colour painting. His exhibitions include a solo show in Markham (2022), Hong Kong City Hall (2023), a solo exhibition in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong (2024), and a joint exhibition at Toronto City Hall and Metro Hall (2026). He has also received recognition from the International Water-colour Society.

His J Cho Art Studio is set to open in Markham Central Square, Ontario in early 2027.
